We’re excited for you to read this issue, and we’re proud of what Trouble Among The Stars has accomplished. From now into the future, watch the skies, and stay tuned for more info on our celebratory physical chapbook!
WATCH OUT FOR OUR FINAL ISSUE!
Submissions for our final, sixth issue our now CLOSED. Our infinite thanks and gratitude to everyone who submitted. Due to both logistical and psychological issues resulting from the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, both final decisions and the publishing of the issue will be slightly delayed. All decisions on submissions will be emailed out by Monday, April 27th, and the issue will be published in the second week of May. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and patience in this time, and we are sending our absolute best wishes to everyone who reads this. We are profoundly excited for the final issue of the magazine, and we hope you are too – it is going to be wonderful!
Additionally, we bear the unfortunate news that the publication of our celebratory chapbook Two Hauntings will be delayed indeterminately (likely until November or thereabouts) due to aforementioned logistical issues resulting from the pandemic. We want to emphasize that the chapbook is absolutely still going ahead, and that it will be amazing when it comes out. Again, our sincere thanks for your understanding, and our best wishes for health, safety, and community.
ONE ANNOUNCEMENT TO RULE THEM ALL
Hello out there!
First and foremost, I am excited to announce that we are now accepting submissions for our upcoming sixth issue. The deadline for this submission period will be April 6th, 2020. As always, please send us your newest and strangest work to troubleamongthestars@gmail.com, while being sure to read and abide by the submission guidelines (which can be accessed here). We are very much looking forward to reading your wonderful work, and we’re excited to make this upcoming issue one for the ages.
Secondly – it is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that this upcoming issue of Trouble Among The Stars will be the final one. This was, of course, not a decision that was made lightly – and indeed, the plan from the outset was always to continue the magazine in a much longer term then will end up being the case. However, after roughly a month and a half of serious reflection, I have come to the conclusion that I am not in a position to continue running a magazine by myself (for both financial and health-related reasons), and that it would not be fair to me, nor would it be fair to the speculative community, if I were to continue running a journal that I did not have full confidence in. I am and will always be incredibly, profoundly proud of what TATS has accomplished, and I remain infinitely grateful to the contributors who have trusted the journal with their work. This sixth and final issue will be truly excellent, and I am also happy to announce that I have a very fitting capstone to the project in store as well –
as a celebration of the Trouble Among The Stars project, I will be publishing a physical chapbook featuring two brand new short stories by acclaimed writers (and past TATS contributors) Charlotte Platt and Amy LeBlanc. The book is called Two Hauntings, and the stories within work to explore, play with and subvert the idea of something (or someone) being haunted. I cannot overstate how excited I am about this chapbook, and I truly believe that it will be a wholly fitting physical expression of this magazine. I’ve created a standalone page for the chapbook (you can access it here, or on the top menu bar), and will be posting more information about the project there in time.
Again, I’d like to extend my deepest thanks to everyone who has contributed, submitted, or read the magazine – it has been a dream come true to work with all of you on something which I truly believe in. If anyone reading this would like to talk with me more about my decision making process vis a vis ending the journal, I’d like to encourage them to send me an email. I’m wishing you all the best – stay tuned, and always watch the skies.
